The Alpengasthof Hohe Burg

Your host

At the Alpengasthof Hohe Burg in Trins, you will be the guest of Christian Salchner and his team. We are passionate mountaineers and tourers ourselves, love and appreciate nature in the Tyrolean Gschnitztal valley and would like to share this passion with you.

The Hohe Burg is a place for mountain lovers, for active people and for those seeking peace and quiet. Friendly, warm and grounded. Small, cosy, down-to-earth. Because that's all it takes to feel good.

Christmas Magic

Christmas Markets in Innsbruck and the Region

When the first snow falls and the towns and villages are festively decorated, the Advent season begins throughout the Wipptal valley. The Christmas markets in Innsbruck are particularly well-known and attract numerous visitors every year.
The historic old town, with the Golden Roof, provides a particularly atmospheric backdrop for one of Tyrol’s most beautiful Christmas markets. During the Advent season, small markets featuring regional crafts, Tyrolean specialities and festive music also spring up in the surrounding districts, such as St. Nikolaus or the market square.

In addition to Innsbruck, smaller Advent markets are also held in the Wipptal valley and the surrounding villages, offering a particularly cosy atmosphere and providing an authentic insight into Tyrolean Advent traditions.

Customs & Traditions

Nikolo, Krampus and Perchten

An integral part of Tyrolean winter tradition are the Nikolo and Krampus parades, which take place every year in early December. Whilst St Nicholas makes his way through the villages bearing small gifts, he is often accompanied by fearsome Krampuses wearing intricately carved masks and bells. This tradition has a long history in Tyrol and, for many locals, is simply part of the Advent season. Perchten parades also take place in many towns across the region. Groups of Perchten, wearing elaborately designed masks and costumes, parade through the streets, creating a spectacular spectacle. For visitors, this is a special opportunity to experience Alpine winter customs up close.

Celebrating New Year’s Eve

Mountain New Year’s Eve in Innsbruck

A particular highlight at the turn of the year is Mountain New Year’s Eve in Innsbruck. Around 31 December, Innsbruck city centre transforms into a huge party zone with music, concerts and events. In the Old Town and along Maria-Theresien-Straße, several stages create a festive atmosphere. Shortly before midnight, large crowds gather in the city to celebrate the New Year together. The New Year is finally welcomed with a spectacular fireworks display against the impressive backdrop of the Nordkette – an experience that makes the New Year’s celebrations in Tyrol truly special.
